Mission: The students of southern louisiana are ready to fight to preserve their way of life, but it is our responsibility to arm them with the tools necessary to win this battle. We fulfill this obligation by producing innovative programs that inspire our students to be active problem solvers as they face challenges living in a coastal community.
Programs: Summer camps- our annual summer camps are open to students ages 9-12 years old. Our campers take field trips to exciting wetland venues and return to the bayou terrebonne waterlife museum to discuss their experiences and participate in other hands-on activities. The wetlands explorer camp focuses on what makes our coast special and the working coast camp explores our natural resources. Expenses include 25% of staff time to produce the program.
coastal classroom - program that works to educate k-12 students on the potential solutions and challenges we face as a coasta community. Expenses include 25% of staff time to produce the program.
rougarou sweep - incorporated proper trash disposal and recycling into the rougarou fest. A recycling booth and recycling store offered two hands-on models: one teaching the everyday household itmes that can and should be recycled and an enviroscape model allowing visitors to see the effects of litter as it enters the surrounding wetlands and coastal waters. After learning about the effects of litter, visitors wer able to voulnteer for the rougarou sweep cleanup after the festival. Expenses include 25% of staff time to produce the program.
