Mission: FRCA strives to achieve transformational change in the regard of animals within our community, by addressing the root
cause of the problem which is poverty. We acknowledge that significant barriers exist for pet-owners living in poverty,
including affordable and desired services for a beloved pet. Through donor and grant support, our programs reduce
overpopulation and local shelter intake, while improving the lives of both people and pets. This is achieved by offering
assistance in spay/neuter, wellness services, and by offering alternatives to surrendering a pet. We foster positive, non-judgmental relationships with those we serve and provide the opportunity to keep pets happy, healthy, and forever in their own home.
Results: 105 cats and 188 dogs have been altered since 2016. 32 pet owners received assistance for veterinary care in 2019. An average of 80 pet-owners received pet food in 2019, feeding an average of 279 cats and 211 dogs....all to keep pets at home and out of our local shelter.
Target demographics: People and Pets Living in Poverty
Direct beneficiaries per year: 221 animals and their owners
Geographic areas served: Russell County, Virginia

I love this organization! They help the community by supplying fencing, food and veterinarian care. They try to keep the animals with the owner when possible. I donate because sometimes all you need is a little help from your Friends at Russell County!

Charlene and I connected when she was looking to start a Friends of group for Russell County. We had an ongoing group and we were happy to work with Charlene. She is always very hardworking, dedicated and so compassionate for the animals of Russell County. She is a one woman dynamo! From running up and down the state to pick up pet food and supplies, to working to saving and transporting animals. She is an excellent communicator and collaborator and so many animals in Russell County have her to thank for their loving home. Russell County is very fortunate to have such a kind hearted and caring member of their community! Evelyn Grieve, President and Co-Founder, Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
