Mission: To encourage the advancement of the public health workforce mainly through a certification exam process and a maintenance of certification continuing education process for this workforce;to seek funding for these efforts and for other public health workforce related purposes and to use such means as promotion of the certification and continuing education process,scholarships,awards,research and presentation opportunities among other methodologies to accomplish its goals.
Programs: Fundraising. A main program for the faphc was to seek funding for the advancement of the public health workforce in 2012 and beyond. The faphc wrote several grant applications,conducted several campaigns to raise money from individuals,began an honoree program as well as a sponsorship and prize program. The faphc participated in the pittsburgh foundation,day of giving online donation program and secured a large grant from the american legacy foundation. Overall, $59,985 was raised from the fundraising efforts.
certification in public health and maintenance of certification promotion. The faphc promotes lifelong learning and standardized testing and maintenance on key knowledge as methods to advance the profession, using speakers,displays, and dissemination of research on the exam at national and statewide conferences. A study on the creation and the outcome of the charter certified in public health exam cohort was presented to the pennsylvania public health association and other groups. This year, for the first time, the value of the cph credential was showcased through an inaugural certified in public health pioneer award which was presented at a state award conference. A grant award from the american legacy foundation to define the skill set for public health tobacco control and to determine the feasibility of a subspeciality credentialing exam in public health tobacco control will allow for refined research in public health credentialing into 2013. A faphc website was developed and launched in 2012, showcasing the value of the public health workforce and of public health credentialing.
international exam fee waiver program. The faphc waives an international exam fee charged for students in other countries to sit for the cph examin foreign locations. The cost is offset for individual students awarded and judged eligible by their schools.
