Mission: The Fordettes was founded by Ruth Curtin Arreche in 1953 as a self-help, support group for disabled adults. The mission evolved into Spiritual Ministry, Recreation and Transportation program with an orientation of Roman Catholic religious services.
Presently a free transportation program is operated about 30 hours per week using one Fordettes' owned vehicle. Key to the success of the activities is the services of over 30 volunteer drivers using their own vehicles to transport 125 disabled, monthly to 8 churches for Catholic Mass, Lunch & Recreation. Over 300 disabled attend the annual Christmas party held at St. Francis Prep in Queens.
