Young people face a variety of challenges, regardless of their backgrounds. For foster children, those challenges are magnified exponentially. Young women (and men) age out of foster care at age 18, ready or not. Assuming they were in a supportive environment, it's suddenly over. They often leave with all their worldly goods - their belongings, in nothing more than a trash bag. Who among us was ready for the real world, emotionally or financially at such a tender age? Imagine their doubt, their fear.
Footsteps to the Future concentrates on helping young ladies in SW Florida who are forced out of foster care. FTTF provides counseling, support, encouragement, and is engaged in a world-class mentoring program, equipping these young women for a productive future. Through tutoring programs and other support, FTTF turns the tide on startling statistics. Visit their website for specifics.

11 years ago I learned about the plight of foster youth in Collier and Lee Counties of SW Fl. Like most I heard of foster care but really had no idea of the challenges young people in the system faced After doing some research I found out too much and could not walk away from what i learned including the social problems and the impact on our community. Realizing the fact that so many of the younth in my own backyard were falling thru the cracks I ,with the help of many concerned people began an amazing mentoring program for young women in foster care called Footsteps to the Future.
