Mission: Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT) promotes the safe and humane production of meat, milk, and eggs. FACT envisions that all food-producing animals will be raised in a healthy and humane manner so that everyone will have access to safe and humanely-produced food.
Results: Improving farm animal welfare: Cumulatively, FACT has awarded 67 grants to deserving farmers across 26 states, directly impacting more than 54,000 animals. Thousands more animals in subsequent generations raised on these funded farms will benefit from improved conditions, access to open pasture, and the humane methodology that FACT invests and espouses through our Fund-a-Farmer Project. Building the capacity of humane farmers: Thus far FACT has provided 68 scholarships up to $400 to conferences for independent family farmers who otherwise would not be able to attend. FACT also provides webinars and other capacity building opportunities so that farmers may learn from each other and invest in humane practices. Creating healthier food choices for consumers: FACT made significant progress in persuading major fast food chains to commit to serving meat produced with fewer antibiotics, and will continue our work to ensuring responsible usage of antibiotics. FACT also succeeded in eliminating arsenic in the food supply chain.

Programs: FACT’s Humane Farming Program encourages farmers to use humane practices that improve farm animal welfare and the public to support humane farms. Our Humane Farming Program is designed to increase the number of farm animals being humanely raised in communities nationwide. FACT's Food Safety Program identifies and advocates for steps farmers can take to keep their cattle, pigs, turkeys and chickens from being the cause of illness in humans. This includes steps to ensure that the animals themselves are protected from disease, and controlling what drugs and feed they are given. FACT is the only consumer advocacy organization that focuses on the farm end of the farm-to-table food safety continuum.
