Mission: The flynn's mission is to foster the enjoyment, understanding, and development of the performing arts in vermont through diverse and engaging artistic experiences. The flynn fulfills its mission through the following goals:*develop, maintain, and manage the historic flynn theatre and flynn center properties to meet current and evolving performing arts needs in the region. *present a diverse range of high quality performances by established and emerging artists that expand and enrich the community's cultural experiences. *provide educational programs that engage children, teens, and adults in the artistic process; cultivate appreciation of the performing arts; and make the performing arts an integral part of school and community life. *support local, national, and international artists in the development and presentation of their work.
Programs: During its 2016-2017 fiscal year, the flynn center programmed its two venues-the mainstage (1,439 seats), flynnspace (150 seats), two studios, and gallery and made these spaces available to outside renters. The flynn center:presented a performing arts season for the general public of 122 events, attended by 45,000 people,provided 1,276 redeemed discount vouchers to 76 social service agencies through our pact (providing accessible community tickets) program,presented 42 student matinee performances attended by 36,750 schoolchildren (including 7,175 subsidized tickets) from 175 schools and 166 home schools,produced the citywide burlington discover jazz festival in flynn and community spaces, with 110 presented performances and 115 free hours of music and an estimated 70,000 people.
provided a performance home to other arts organizations and presenters who staged 183 performances, attracting an estimated 109,000 people.
instructors completed 691 hours of school workshops with an estimated attendance of 17,275 students in 85 schools, as well as 56 teacher workshop hours for approximately 350 school teachers,offered the arts education program, flynnarts, for children and adults with 133 classes, workshops, and camps and 1,519 participants, with $31,500 in scholarships awarded, presented 10 multi-day artist residencies that included 8 pre- and post-performance discussions, 7 master-classes, 6 community workshops, and 2 development events.
