Programs: The mission of the flagstaff symphony association is to enrich, engage, and inspire our community through the performance of orchestral music. To meet this mission, the flagstaff symphony orchestra (fso) performs concerts throughout the calendar year with total annual attendance in fy17 of more than 13,000. The fso season begins with an outdoor concert on july 4 that is offered free to all in the community. The subscription season is performed in ardrey memorial auditorium on the campus of northern arizona university. Seven programs of classical and popular symphonic music are offered each season that feature more than 65 professional musicians of the fso along with internationally recognized guest artists. An annual season highlight is the holiday performance of the nutcracker produced and performed with the nau community music and dance academy. Fso partners with carnegie hall each year to present educational concerts through the link up program. Link up provides curriculum and materials to teachers and students and culminates in a live interactive concert for more than 3,600 students in grades 3-5, plus 200 teachers and other adults. Since 2013, the fso has been consistently recognized by the flagstaff arts council as a nominee for excellence in the performing arts category at the annual community awards for the arts and sciences (the viola awards). Fso is supported by a volunteer board of directors and volunteer auxiliary, the flagstaff symphony guild, with more than 100 members.
