Mission: The five wings arts council encourages and promotes arts creation, appreciation, and education through grant programs and technical assistance to enhance the quality of life for minnesota residents in cass, crow wing, morrison, todd, and wadena counties.
Programs: The council solicited and awarded 59 production/sponsorship grants to 29 arts organizations and community groups. Awards are to be used by grantees to produce their own arts activities or sponsor a touring artist/activity. Grant funds were available for arts projects which developed or enhanced local or regional artists, arts resources, or arts audiences.
the council awarded 15 general operating and capital support grants to 15 organizations to strengthen and stabilize established nonprofit arts organizations allowing them to provide the best possible service to the arts.
the council promoted and supported 15 regional individual artists working in the visual, literary or performing arts by awarding grants to assist in the development of their art form. This year the council awarded grants in three categories: professional development grants, individual artist project support, and master artist fellowship. Professional development grants are for workshops, seminars, private nstruction/mentoring, conferences, etc. Project support grants are for expenses such as supplies, equipment, consulting time, their own creative time, etc. Master artist fellowship grants are given biannually to recognize an artist in the region who has achieved creative excellence, a superior mastery and proficiency in their art form, has developed a reputable body of work, and is recognized to have made important contributions to the arts.
the council promoted arts education in 11 school districts by awarding 12 grants to supplement the arts education already being provided to area students. Project examples include, but are not limited to, artist residencies, arts education field trips, and other non-curriculum arts activities. The council awarded 6 grants to 6 organizations who were either a first- time applicant or a group wishing to take advantage of a late breaking opportunity.
