Mission: Financial beginnings empowers youth and adults to take control of their financial future. We provide educational programs that incorporate all aspects of personal finance to give individuals the foundation they need to make informed financial decisions.
Programs: In accordance with financial beginnings' mission and 501(c)(3) exempt status, financial beginnings provides financial literacy education to school-aged youth and young adults. This is accomplished through financial beginnings' youth programs: financial literacy education for young adults and financial literacy education for high school students. In the 2016-2017 program year 41,525 youth and young adults benefited from this program. Proficiencies gained include, among others: - budgeting, including calculating interest, balancing a checkbook, and planning for expenses;- distinguishing between and understanding the role of banks, credit unions, and other financial organizations;- saving costs on banking and insurance;- understanding credit and insurance. The three broad goals of these financial literacy programs are to teach students how to (1) adeptly navigate banking, credit, and insurance industries, (2) actively participate in these industries, and (3) responsibly manage their personal finances. Financial beginnings works in partnership with schools who request these programs, and with more than 300 trained community volunteers who deliver these programs cost-effectively and efficiently.
