Mission: The fcnl education fund (the education fund)'s research, analysis, and educational work inform members of the public and government leaders about issues of peace, justice, opportunity, and environmental stewardship that are of concern to the religious society of friends (quakers).
Programs: Strategic advocacy program: the education fund works with a network of some 60,000 people from all over the country to educate, encourage, and train people to be involved in the democratic processes and to educate citizens about public policy initiatives. Through communications (such as newsletters, web site, emails, social media posts, and telephone calls) and travel around the country, the education fund trains people in effective and timely advocacy for peace and justice.
general program: the education fund's work supports the specific program areas described in other parts of this document. In addition, the education fund engages young adults in several programs that provide professional formation as leaders and advocates for a more peaceful and just world. These programs include 7(seven) young fellows who participate in a year-long apprenticeship, 18 advocacy corps members who are educated on our specific issues, 6 (six) summer interns and 400 attendees of our spring lobby weekend to learn how faith and practice support our issues and advocacy.
domestic policy program: the education fund analyzes existing and proposed federal government policies that have an impact on the lives of everyone in the united states. The education fund researches and writes about government's role in programs that alleviate poverty and address pressing human and community needs, such as food, housing, health care, education, and opportunities for meaningful employment. The education fund informs congress and the public about the importance of reductions in the overall military budget and in worldwide u. S. Military operations and shifting funds to human needs and true human security. The education fund supports common-sense reforms of u. S. Immigration policy that respects the rights and dignity of all immigrants, demonstrates compassion for families, and protects children, asylum seekers, and other vulnerable persons. The education fund seeks to inform constituents about possible reforms in campaign finance laws that would increase participation and faith in our democratic processes, and that could reduce the excessive influence of large political campaign contributions. The education fund works to provide information about changes in mass incarceration, reforms in federal sentencing laws and the problems associated with the militarization of local law enforcement. The education fund generally works on each of these issues through coalitions with other faith based groups and other partner organizations.
