Mission: To give children in the cape fear region an understanding of the world around them by providing a hands-on learning environment through the use of interactive exhibits and programs.
Programs: Fascinate-u's through the door visitation for 2016 equaled 38,827 visitors with an additional 1,758 people served through outreach programs. 3,636 (9%) visitors took advantage of our free wednesday program and free visitation during downtown's monthly "4th friday" celebration, or through a city recreation center group visit. Eighty-six (86) curriculum-based science programs reached 3,961 students from pre-k through 7th grade. Over 300 2nd grade students and parents participated in the science discovery night the museum hosted for several schools in the cumberland county district. The museum conducted three week-long summer camp sessions with half a day devoted to art and half devoted to science. Girl scout badge workshops were held in 2016 for badges in product design, animal habitats, home scientist, inventor, and detective. Regularly scheduled monthly programs include "make it, take it" on the second saturday, "super science" on the third saturday, and "fourth friday" on the evening of the fourth friday of each month.
