Causes: Family Planning, Health, Reproductive Rights
Mission: The mission of the family health council of central pennsylvania, inc. Is to build and support community based health networks through partnerships, education, advocacy, and effective resource allocation.
Programs: Family planning - fhccp oversees a health care network that ensures accessible health care to uninsured low-income women and those lacking sufficient health insurance. Services include gynecological medical exams; breast and cervical cancer screening; screening for diabetes, anemia, and high blood pressure; sexually transmitted diseases infection testing; contraceptive information, education, and supplies; hiv/aids education and prevention; and preconception screening and education. It also includes a federal medicaid waiver that significantly expands access to high quality, comprehensive family planning services for uninsured adult women in pennsylvania. Covered services include routine gynecological care, pap tests, breast exams, and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, including hiv. Eligible women receive services at no cost. There were 29,259 family planning patients seen at 16 agencies during fiscal year 2015.
hiv/aids - fhccp works with subcontractor agencies that provide hiv case management, medical care, and support services for infected and affected persons and families as well as prevention education and housing assistance. Total number of unduplicated clients served from ryan white funding equaled 1,666 clients; and from hopwa funding equaled 93 tenant-based rentals and 145 households with short-term assistance.
women, infants, and children nutrition program (wic) - provides nutritional health services to women, infants, and children, serving a total of 177,312 clients in fiscal year 2015 (14,776 clients monthly average) through 25 wic sites, 14 of which are operated directly by fhccp
healthy woman - provides cancer and chronic disease services, including breast and cervical cancer screening for women between the ages of 40 and 64. In fiscal year 2015 1,177 clients were served, 23 were diagnosed with breast and/or cervical cancer and referred to the bccpt program, and 123 women received preventative services through the wise woman programother programs - other supported programs use mentoring, counseling, and adult supervision to promote abstinence from sexual activity between youth ages 9 to 14; examine, diagnose, and provide sexually transmitted disease examination, diagnostic, counseling, and treatment services; help eligible people put healthy food on the table; and ensure nutritious meals for children when school is not in session.
