Mission: FCSG was formed in 1996, incorporated in 1999, and obtained its 501(c)(3) status in 2000. FCSG promotes Smart Growth development in Fairfax County and neighboring Northern Virginia jurisdictions to control sprawl and preserve open space. It does so through public education and advocacy that emphasize (1) integrated land use and transportation planning, (2) mixed use transit development, reduced automobile dependency, and pedestrian-friendly urban villages, (3) a range of housing and transportation options, reduced energy consumption, (4) developing neighborhoods with a sense of "place," and (5) direct and meaningful involvement of citizens in planning decisions affecting their community.
