Programs: Tissue recovery, evaluation, research and distribution program the purpose of this program is the recovery, examination, evaluation and distribution of human eye tissue that has been donated for sight-restoring corneal transplantation, and for ophthalmic research into the causes and cures of blinding eye conditions. Eye tissue donors are those who generously gave their consent to donate organs and/or tissues upon their death, or whose family gave consent for donation when the donor's death occurred. The beneficiaries of this program include cornea transplant recipients, who suffer from eye injuries and diseases that can lead to blindness unless they are treated through corneal transplantation, and the millions of others who can be helped through scientific research.

transplant games of america eversight ohio partnered with other organizations in northeast ohio to bring the transplant games of america to cleveland in june 2016. The transplant games drew a crowd of nearly 7,000 attendees to downtown cleveland during the 4 day event. The games honor the lives of eye, organ and tissue donors and showcase the importance of donation and transplantation. This was the second time corneal recipients were invited to participate in the games. Our participation showed the significant contribution eye banks makes to the world of donation and transplantation. We participated in print, radio and television media.

public and professional education the greatest impact we have on donation and transplantation comes from our relationships with the communities we serve: surgeons and medical professionals, cornea recipients, donor families, researchers, philanthropic supporters, and the public. We work with this community to spread the positive message about the importance of eye donation, transplantation and research and how people can help through awareness of the need for donors, volunteering, eye health and safety, and philanthropy.
