Causes: Domestic Violence, Family Violence Shelters, Homeless & Housing
Mission: To conduct a program of social services, advocacy and education, designed to alleviate the problem of domestic violence in north central new mexico with the stated goals of protecting people from abuse, neglect and exploitation, to offer remedies to domestic violence, and to positively impact community and systems response to domestic violence.
Programs: Emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence. The shelter operates 24 hours/day, 365 days per year and has a 42 bed capacity. This past year the organization housed 154 adults and 138 children, for a total of 292 individuals served with an average length stay of 24 days. The shelter also responded to 322 crisis hotline calls. In addition to housing, the shelter provides counseling, case management, meals, transportation, transitional housing, and donated goods.
non-residential counseling. Esperanza currently runs 15 domestic violence groups per week for victim-survivors, child victim-witnesses, and offenders. Some of these groups have special focuses such as spanish-speaking or gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender. This year the organization served 208 adult victims, 22 child victim-witnesses, 157 offenders, and also responded to multiple crisis hotline calls.
