Nonprofit Overview

Mission: Electric Theatre Company is dedicated to the presentation of professional theatre artists in top-quality productions of both new and established work. Believing that live theatre provides a uniquely vital, thought-provoking, and stimulating examination of the human condition — entertainment that is food for the soul — the artistic leadership is also dedicated to introducing the rewards and pleasures of living theatre to as diverse an audience as possible throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. These efforts include providing educational outreach programs, fostering theatrical innovation, and introducing dynamic and original work to our audiences.

Results: Audience are growing. Classes in Griffin Conservatory are strong, but don't often enroll. Out on a Limb, the theatre lab of Griffin Conservatory, is vital and usually well attended. In Bocca al Lupo, the study abroad opportunity in commedia dell'arte and Italian language, enrolled in 2006 and 2009, and in 2007 and 2008 ETC sent commedia based work to international theatre festivals in Italy. The Portal Projects with Marywood develop and deepen each season. Student matinees are increasingly well attended, and the supporting study guides are excellent.

Target demographics: We aim to provide the region with top quality theatrical productions, actor training, experimental work, international study opportunities. ETC partners with Marywood University in The Portal Projects to extend and enhance the educational experiences of the theatre program, and offers free tickets at special matinees to high school students. ETC also partners with various community organizations in special events, fund raising, and downtown development, and is coproducer with Queens Theatre in the Park in New York City.

The Electric Theatre Company (ETC) has so much to offer the people in NE PA. The vast array of talent they bring in from Broadway to local individuals is absolutely wonderful. ETC offers the people in and around NEPA the opportunity to see many original plays and readings, dance groups and musicians. ETC also offers local actors a chance to hone their skills in voice, acting and movement. There are so many talented people who are willing to share their experiences with everyone and to help us all learn. Classes at ETC's Griffin Conservatory have helped me with my acting, voice and movement skills and have given me the enthusiasm and confidence I needed to get out in the local community theater groups and audition for a broad range of characters. I recommend to anyone, anywhere to come and see what ETC has to offer.

Electric Theatre Company (ETC) is a gem. Their productions are top notch. ETC has some very creative people in the company and they do everything from commedia to world premieres. They run 7-8 shows per season. Their outreach to the community and in particular to students is commendable. ETC runs a conservatory for actors and offers an intensive study abroad program in Italy during the summer - participants study commedia and Italian and at the end of 3 weeks perform in Italian in front of an Italian audience.

Last season ETC started Out on a Limb, a series for company members to try things they've always wanted to do, to go, well, out on a limb. In addition ETC brought Zip Zap Zop to life, a program that brings at risk high school students together with students from the general population in classes and productions. Both have been great successes.

Finally, there's the commitment, the passion and the dedication of the company and staff and board at ETC. They are some of the warmest, most caring people, and that comes through to their work on and behind stage.
