My two sons attended Bridges academy from 2nd grade through 9th grade. I truly believe that if it weren't for their help, they would not have been able to graduate high school. They are now both in college and doing very well. The faculty at Bridges are all very dedicated and knowledgeable of these children's needs, and teach them on a one to one basis, depending on how each one learns. It is a wonderful school!
My son falls in the Autism Spectrum Disorder (highly functioning) and always struggled behaviorally and education wise in public schools. Early in his public schooling, he has been in special education classes. The public school district has labeled him from Learning Disabled to Emotionally Disturbed. Not until his mother and I ordered the school district to test him for Autism in the fifth grade did they get his coding correct. Unfortunately, they continued to place him the same special education class since they did not have a program geared towards students on the Autism Spectrum. Bridges Academy has made more of a positive impact in my son's education in one year than public schools could do in five. The staff and teachers are more than capable of dealing with the challenges of teaching kids who have learning disabilities. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and creativity shows in the quality of curriculum and year-round projects they assign to the students. My son's has been able to catch up in some areas where he struggled before and is starting to grasp basics concepts in areas where he will also have trouble, like math. My son still has behavioral issues but again the staff and teachers are always prepared and patient to deal with kids with these types of challenges. What surprised me and still astonishes me the most is the camaraderie the students have for each other. Where my son felt like an outsider in public school he found friendship and support at Bridges. To me that is worth the entire experience.
May son has been a student at El Paso Bridges Academy for 31/2 years. Because of the assistance he has received at Bridges, he reads 2 years above his grade level even though he is dyslexic. I have seen new parents in tears after just one semester, when they see the change in their child and the success that they have become. We need to get the word out about the wonderful resource that this school is!
Bridges Academy is the only school that focuses on LD students in the geographical area between Tucson Az. and Dallas, Texas. It's been around for 34 years. ADD, ADHD, Asperger's, Dyslexia, Dyscalcula and Dysgraphia are just some of the neurological conditions that Bridges Academy students experience.
The faculty and administrative staff of this "little school that could" display commitment and skill beyond most people's greatest expectations.
The success stories are phenomenal and the kids are truly blessed to be part of a caring, nurturing environment with a small student to teacher ratio and a great new location that reaches out to home-schooled kids needing additional help, as well as traditional daytime attendees.
I am wowed by what goes on there, every day.
For any parent whose child has special needs - I highly recommend a call to this school.
