Mission: Education burma thailand myanmar (ebtm) was formed on 7/22/2014 with the mission of:a) funding myanmar migrant education programs in thailand. B) facilitating and funding programs for the migrant students' return to myanmar. C) creating and funding programs in myanmar for migrant and other needy students. D) in 2016, ebtm added agricultural, educational and community development programs in myanmar. Ebtm programs carry on and expand bill harrison's work on education in thailand which started after the asian tsunami in 2004, where he raised operating funds for the chiang mai learning center from 2005-2009 and the beam education foundation from 2010-2014.
Programs: Ebtm/beam myanmar project:in 2017, more migrant students living in thailand were returning to their country. The ebtm/beam myanmar project has expanded its staff in yangon, myanmar and continues to act as a resource center with information, training and exchanges to assist returning migrant students and workers as they integrate into their new lives in myanmar. Ebtm continues to work with the myanmar education ministry to obtain accreditation in myanmar for returning migrants academic work completed in thailand. Ebtm continues to promote non- formal education (nfe) opportunities for the many children in myanmar who cannot afford to attend the formal state schools. Ebtm/beam/yangon conducted extensive fact- finding projects in 12 villages throughout myanmar to analyze nfe obstacles and opportunities. The myanmar ministry of education chose ebtm/beam/yangon to be an organizing partner for the department of alternative education.
green waves project:working with myanmars green waves social enterprise organization, ebtm funded in 2017 a 100 acre rice planting project in an area of southern myanmars irriwaddy delta still suffering the effects of the devastating 2008 cyclone nargis. A new school and playground were completed in 2017 for k-5 students from surrounding delta villages.
village corps:ebtm executed an ambitious program to help graduates of beam school in chiang mai, thailand to return to the villages in myanmar where they grew up. Many beam school graduates submitted projects for their home villages (furniture manufacturing, tailoring businesses, an educational resource facility, a family planning project). Five projects designed by beam graduates and tailored to their home village needs were operating by november, 2017.
