Tuesday afternoons are the best because we get to take a ride in the country to Halleck Creek Ranch. Riding is the highlight of Lily's week. She experiences joy and love with the horse and people connections and smiles ear to ear the entire time there. Our 20 year old non-verbal child even graced us by saying thank you to Mesa and the horse two weeks in a row. She has never shown consistentcy but always consistently and excitedly taps her horse to walk on. It's the best form of therapy she has ever experienced and with the best results! We love Halleck Creek Ranch and all our friends there. Thank you HCR for brightening Lily's world.

No Matter how rough your day is when you get to Halleck Creek all is well...Halleck Creek is a safe, beautiful place for the whole family! Every night when we say our prayers...we are grateful for Halleck Creek. .....The gentle and noble herd...the well trained staff and volunteers make Halleck Creek ROCK!
Over the years I have seen new people come out to club for the first time to ride, in about six months to a year you can see a difference from the first day they came out to ride. Halleck creek ranch has so much too often to all difference kind disabled people, it a place where we can be just like people who aren’t disabled. The staffs at Halleck Creek are the most fantastic people that you would ever meet in your lives. They care about every rider who comes out, and if you need any kind of help or support they are right there for you.
Halleck Creek offers so much to the disabled and their families. My autistic son has been riding there for six years, and it has been the only activity where he was easily accepted. We tried other activities but nothing even comes close to the joy of our Saturdays at Halleck Creek.
My son loves his weekly unique experience with horses in the great outdoors of West Marin. The setting is completely wholesome and natural, and the staff and volunteers are really a unique group of down-to-earth, caring people (and everyone has a sense of humor!) I'm constantly amazed at how effectively and safely they make horseback riding available to people with all kinds of disabilities. The pride and smiling faces of the riders really says it all (check out their website for photos!)
Also, my younger daughter has made many strong friendships with other siblings out at the ranch and gets to help tend the goats and animals and enjoy a safe outdoors environment. I have made friends with other parents, and our picnic lunch out there with the families and volunteers is my support group!
Come out to the ranch and check it out! You'll be amazed!
Halleck Creek Ranch has been a great resouce for our family for over 15 years. It is the one place we can take our disabled son, and the rest of the family, and have a great day together. The horseback riding, the great outdoors, the friendly group of people that gather there - is is all first rate. Highly recommended.......come on out and join!
I love being a part of our riders' day at Halleck Creek Ranch. Every Saturday brings a new experience. As simple as a smile or the excitement of a first ride. I am unbelievably privileged to share in our riders' joy.
Our son has been participating in the Saturday rides each week for nearly 7 years now. He has autism and poor muscle tone. My husband and I love walking the trail alongside the horses, participating in the various activities provided by the staff, fundraising, and just spending time in such a beautiful place with people who care so deeply about our son. We never feel judged and know we can always be comfortable there, no matter how our son behaves because everyone there accepts him just the way he is. The staff is always full of energy and encouraging words, and they understand what it means to truly be inclusive. A trip to Halleck Creek is therapeutic for the entire family, not just our son!
Halleck Creek offers a unique experience for disabled children and adults in a fun and extremely positive atmosphere. I used to be a volunteer with Halleck Creek until I relocated elsewhere. Although I have worked with similar programs following my relocation, none have matched the combination of care and enthusiasm expressed at Halleck Creek. The horses, staff, volunteers and riders truly offer a unique encounter.
My son has low muscle tone and some learning disabilities. His O.T. suggested that he try Theraputic Horseback Riding. We had tried many other therapies and spend alot of money on them, but nothing worked. We were willing to try this because Halleck Creek Ranch offered their services for free. My son, started at Halleck Creek Ranch in April 2009. He loves horseback riding there. The staff and volunteers have been great! Their helpfull, friendly, encouraging and knowledgeble. My son looks forward to Wednesday (his riding day). He now rides the horse without the horse being lead. He's groomed and saddled the horses. Not only has my son had fun there, it has help his low muscle tone and his learning. He is more confident and willing to try new things in the learning enviroment. His muscle tone (core) strenghth has improved and he is able to hold himself upright longer than before. We're glad to have found a place that can help our son with his issues at a cost we can afford.
Halleck Creek Ranch, located in the countryside of West Marin, CA, offers therapeutic riding programs for people with all types of disabilities. As a volunteer, I have the opportunity to work with many of the riders. All of the children (and parents) love being at the ranch, having picnics, playing, but most of all the children love riding a horse. The horse enables them to experience freedom of movement out in nature. The smiles on their faces when they come back from a ride are fantastic! Halleck Creek offers them something very special and unique, which they could not get anywhere else. It has deeply benefited many lives, especially mine!
Halleck Creek Ranch is a beautiful place, it's out in the country where one cannot help but feel terrific. The disabled children and some adults get ride a horse, what a thrill!! I often see the riders return from a trail ride with a huge grin on their face. I am a volunteer since January of this year, 2009. I am proud to volunteer at Halleck Creek Ranch, I'm learning about horses and people. It doesn't matter if I'm cleaning a horse stall, grooming a horse or giving encouragement to a rider, it all feels good. The staff are all supportive to both clients and volunteers. Honest, candid feedback; I wish I could be there more often, and spend more time with the horses and children.
