St. Landry Parish is a small, rural community in South Louisiana with a population of about 83,000 people. It is a community where friends and neighbors become like family to each other and take care of each other. And it is also a community where nearly 32% of the population live in poverty and nearly 17% live without adequate health insurance. This year, the OGHS Foundation along with Hope for Opelousas, Eunice Community Health Center, and Opelousas Lighthouse Mission joined together to launch the inaugural Giving Tuesday St. Landry Parish fundraiser. These four nonprofit organizations are doing great things in St. Landry Parish and Giving Tuesday presented a wonderful platform to reach out to potential donors and ask them to help build a better community. Several local community supporters were asked to join the campaign and utilize their personal Facebook to promote the fundraising efforts. Giving Tuesday St. Landry Parish became a wonderful opportunity for donors, supporters, and nonprofits to work together towards a common goal. A win for St. Landry Parish is a win for everyone! This fundraiser effort raised nearly $4,000 with no fundraising expenses. This community has embraced Giving Tuesday St. Landry Parish and is committed to building a better St. Landry Parish. The possibility of an additional $10,000 would exponentially affect so many in our community. Giving Tuesday St. Landry Parish is a fire that has been lit in this community so please help us with your financial support.
