Mission: Dyf improves the quality of life for children, teens, and families affected by diabetes. Dyf provides education and recreation within a supportive community, encouraging personal growth , knowledge, and independence.
Programs: Summer camp programs: during the summer months, dyf operates several programs at various locations. Bearskin meadow camp (bmc) runs for multiple weeks for children, teens and families. Bmc operates on public land in the sequoia national forest, giant sequoia monument under supervision of the us forest service. In the summer months, dyf also runs camp de los ninos, a one-week resident camp program at a rental site in the santa cruz mountains. All summer programs are designed to provide education and support that enhances participants knowledge of diabetes management, and instills a sense of competence, confidence and an understanding that a vibrant life with t1d can be a reality.
year round overnight programs: dyf provides weekend education retreats at multiple locations during the non-summer months. During the year, dyf specializes in weekend family retreats including a fall and spring weekend. In addition, dyf operates partnership weekend programs with kaiser permanente and ucsf benioff childrens hospital, including a weekend retreat exclusively for spanish-speaking families.
