Mission: To make dreams come true for children with chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities, or life-altering conditions by creating experiences of joy and magic through the world of sports. See schedule o for more information.
Programs: Dream experience program: our dream kids are referred to us through local healthcare and intellectual or developmental disabilities (idd) resource providers. The dream experience program serves individuals living with chronic illnesses, intellectual or developmental disabilities or life-altering conditions. Recipients between the ages of 5 to 21 receive a fully customized, unique, first-class personalized experience built around their interest and ultimate sports dream. These experiences take children all over the country as each dream is tailored specific to the recipient. As of the end of 2017, we have served 60 children and their families. These dream experiences have included over 1750 volunteer hours logged and participation from the dream kids' communities as sponsors and donors.
jr. Dream team program: our jr. Dream team program, founded in 2015, partners with local school districts to select a high school and a group of students to plan a dream experience for a fellow student living with special needs. This program has created an opportunity for a new generation of emerging leaders by giving them an opportunity to make a difference in the world and to bring about positive change in their community. Guided by a faculty adviser and dream on 3 staff, students learn about fundraising, the nonprofit sector, and teamwork while developing critical character traits such as compassion, generosity, and dependability. Students lead an entire school, and even an entire community, as they help make a dream come true for one of their fellow classmates. Dream on 3 received the community schools award from the iredell-statesville schools board of education, which honors significant contributions made to benefit students in iredell county. This was a result of dream on 3's partnership with the school system through the jr. Dream team program during the 2017-2018 school year. To-date dream on 3 has worked with 4 area high schools and has impacted over 4900 students.
day dream program: our day dream program provides an opportunity to serve and impact many children and families at one time through a sporting event. These events typically include partnerships with local sports organizations and are designed to provide hope and encouragement to kids with life-altering medical conditions. Qualifying children and their families participate together to experience a fun event, with community, and a few hours away from the reality of their condition. Since 2013, we have served over 1500 children and family members through the day dream program. We work with 7 referral partners and additional local service organizations to identify children that would benefit from a day dream.
alumni program: at dream on 3, we believe the greatest rewards for our work are the relationships that we are able to build with the dream kids and their families. Our alumni program is designed to help encourage past dream recipients to continue chasing their dreams and a way for them to stay engaged in the work that dream on 3 is doing in the community. Through this program, dream kids can apply for the nicholas thornton scholarship award as they continue to further education. Dream on 3 also hosts an annual homecoming event for dream recipients and their families since the organization's inception. This event provides all past dream kids and their families an opportunity to reconnect, have fun and enjoy spending time with one another. To date this event has served over 300 dream kids and families.
