Mission: The corporation's purpose is to make downtown washington dc a cleaner, safer and more attractive area, and thereby to promote the common interest of area businesses, by engaging in the employment and management of safety, hospitality, cleaning and maintenance workers. These workers provide services to improve business conditions in the downtown area of the district of columbia, particularly the downtown bid area.
Programs: The corporation provides daily litter patrol, sweeping in public spaces, banner hanging to highlight events in the area and planting and beautification of public spaces, and graffiti removal. The corporation provided machine cleaning of sidewalk and curb areas and reported hazards, defects and repairs needed on public spaces. They welcomed and assisted over 150,000 visitors and downtown workers. Provided presence near metro stops and special events and deterred and reported problems, emergencies, or activities requiring police or fire/rescue response. The corporation distributed information through lobby fairs and visits to office buildings, on special events/activities, and on safety awareness. Escorted services upon request during evening hours and referred services for persons living on the street. Also, provided surveys of retail, restaurant and other services available in the area.
