Causes: Arts & Culture, Arts & Humanities Councils & Agencies
Mission: Through the arts, to enhance the quality of life and develop the cultural, educational and economic growth of our community.
Programs: The doa ana arts council (daac) experienced a major transition in fye 2017; the organization elected to not renew year 4 of a 5-year management agreement with the city of las cruces to operate the rio grande theatre at 211 n. Main st. , las cruces, nm. After rescuing the building in 1998 from demolition, raising 2. 3 million in funds for renovations, re-opening the re-designed building in 2005, and operating it for 11 years, the daac board of directors made the difficult decision to not go forward with year 4 and year 5 of the 5-year agreement with the city of las cruces due to the city's changed vision for the theatre to be part of the city's visit las cruces (formerly the las cruces convention and visitors' bureau). Daac moved out of the rio grande theatre at the end of june, 2017, and relocated offices at 1740 calle de mercado in mesilla, nm. Daac will continue its mission: through the arts, to enhance the quality of life and develop the cultural, educational and economic growth of our community. This will be accomplished by continuing: "arts education partnerships with the las cruces public schools to bring art integration techniques to classroom; "arts education summer programs for k-12 students; "artist, arts organizations and art gallery support; "operation of the new arts & cultural center and art gallery at 1740 calle de mercado "arts festivals and events including the annual renaissance artsfaire, las cruces arts fair and the community arts awards. Due to the move and non-renewal of the rio grande theatre management, the daac staff was reduced from 3 full-time and 5 part-time employees to 3 full-time employees at the end of fye 2017.
