Mission: Diversionary Theatre was founded in 1986 to provide quality theatre for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. The mission of the theatre is to provide an inspiring and thought provoking theatrical platform to explore complex and diverse LGBT stories, which influence the larger cultural discussion. Our vision is to foster and amplify the next generation of LGBT voices by providing live entertainment in a dynamic, inclusive and provocative environment that celebrates and preserves our unique culture.
Results: Diversionary is the third oldest LGBT theatre in the nation having produced over 150 quality mainstage productions over 34 years. Diversionary's Arts Education program reaches more than 1,500 middle and high school students annually and provides free classes and programs for older, LGBT generations. Our Arts Education Programs build a cross-cultural understanding around LGBT themes, while helping participants gain a better understanding of themselves within the world in which they live. Diversionary regularly collaborates with local arts and LGBT organizations, providing a forum for activists and advocates of social awareness, diversity, and inclusion.
