My decision to have a natural birth was fulfilled when I transferred my medical records from one of DC hospitals to FHBC when I was 30 weeks pregnant with my son and absolutely terrified with the hospital birth option. This change was absolutely fantastic, because I immediately was embraced with true care, love and support that I was missing before, and I became more confident that I can do it. To make it a little more obvious I want to mention that my whole family (mom, dad, siblings) all live in different country, but my need for support and care was fulfilled by the FHBC staff. I feel as if I am a part of FHBC family every time I come or even call there. The attention is very personal, and the biggest advantage is their individual approach to people. I was never told there that something is impossible! And it means a lot to me. I want to thank all the FHBC staff for their outstanding support and help during the birth of my son Vincent. Our team rocked! My midwives Aby and Sierra were guiding me through the "techniques" of pushing and keeping me focused, while my doula Magali kept me as calm as possible and helped me relief the pain during active labor. And we did it! All natural, no Epidural involved! I am so proud of it! Even though it was my first pregnancy and delivery, I wouldn't wish it to be any different! Everything was PERFECT! (and I am a perfectionist). Thank you all very much indeed!!
The Developing Families Center actually does what the name says.It helps families develop to become the best that they can be or that they desire. I have been a client here for some years now.Ever since I have became a client I became addicted to the love that surrounded me and my children. I am now an employee of one of the Organizations housed here in the center. I am able to help families that are in the same or different state that I was in. To me coming here is like Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day wrapped into one big present. Thankful that you found a place like this and glad that someone can give the gifts of love, compassion, freedom to be yourself and help with no strings attach. Which is really rare for some places. One of the reasons I chose to work here is because I wanted to put those qualities back into the cycle of The Developing Families Center because it keeps on giving.
The Developing Families Center is a great resource for a low-income neighborhood in D.C. It provides one-stop pregnancy testing, case management, home nursing visits, pregnancy and birth care, well-woman care, pediatric care, and early childhood development starting at 6 weeks of age for babies. They have really done an amazing job of improving birth outcomes for this population, and I hope there is a way for places like this to spread all over the city.
