Mission: The dc affordable law firm ("dcalf") was created in 2015 as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable entity by georgetown university law center and two major law firms, dla piper and arent fox. Its mission is to serve d. C. Residents who have been largely ignored: those with modest incomes who do not qualify for free legal aid and cannot afford the rates lawyers normally charge. Dcalf's primary practice areas are: family law, landlord/tenant law, immigration law, and small business/non-profits serving distressed areas.
Programs: The dc affordable law firm was created in 2015 to provide affordable legal services to dc residents whose incomes fall between 200% and 400% of the federal poverty level. Dcalf attorneys practice in the following areas: family law, landlord/tenant law, immigration law, and small business/non-profit organizations. During the period 7/1/2016 - 6/30/2017, dcalf served approximately 270 clients. Approximately 26 new client matters were opened between 7/1/2016 and 6/30/2017.
in february 2017 dcalf applied for and was awarded a $50,000 immigrant justice legal service (ijls) grant from the dc government to serve clients seeking legal documentation and citizenship. This grant was shared with lutheran social services ($10,000) and ethiopian community center ($10,000). $25,000 of this grant was received on may 8, 2017$5,000 was paid to lss on june 26, 2017$5,000 was paid to the ethiopian community center on june 28, 2017
