Mission: The mission of the dayton society of natural history is to educate and enlighten all people of the region about the wonders of the world through the work of the boonshoft museum of discovery and sunwatch indian village/archaeological park. The mission of dsnh at fort ancient is to provide visitor and educational services focused on archaeology, native american culture, and heritage stewardship as they relate to that site, in partnership with the ohio historical society.
Programs: The dayton society of natural history promotes and diffuses scientific knowledge through the establishment and maintenance of a museum and archaeological park and stimulates scientific investigation. Operation of the boonshoft museum of discovery, boonshoft museum springfield, sunwatch indian village/archaeological park and fort ancient state memorial to provide interactive learning experiences for about 239,000 visitors, educating and enlightening them about the wonders of the world through science. In 2014 the boonshoft museum of discovery had 174,938 member and guests' visits; 19,356 school children visited the museum; the exhibits-to-go program reached 24,094; 25,087 visited the boonshoft museum of discvoery springfield location; 14,888 visited sunwatch indian village/archaeological park; and 25,993 visited fort ancient.
