Mission: Cupertino Senior Day Services, founded in 1980, was started by a group of volunteers who noticed that working family members (caregivers) had extreme difficulties managing the complexities their daily lives. Adult children were caring for aging parents as well as caring for their own children. CSDS provides respite for these caregivers and provides social stimulation for seniors who are at risk of being isolated. By helping prevent caregiver burnout, our community-based program enables seniors to remain in their community. CSDS's goal is to prevent the premature placement of seniors into institutionalization. By preventing the burnout of caregivers and helping maintain the health of semi-independent seniors, CSDS helps the community at large remain healthy and intact.
Programs: Programs at Cupertino Senior Day Services's include: breakfast and lunch program, caregiver support services and referrals, and adult day care. We are an internship site for the San Jose State University Gerontoloty and Health Science programs. We also collaborate with the City of San Jose on the Senior Companion Program, which pays a stipend to seniors who visit frail seniors at our adult day care site.
