Mission: Crispus Attucks Charter School's mission is to prepare students to become mentally tough, by accepting responsibility for themselves. We help students develop self-esteem, self-respect, and respect for others while promoting academics, leadership and career skills, transforming our students into productive and respectable citizens in the community.
Target demographics: Students enrolled at the Crispus Attucks Charter School have often experienced poor academic achievement and school dropout in the past. Approximately 70% of our students lack a strong support system or have an absent parent(s), while 30% of our students are young parents themselves. Moreover, our students are a part of the McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act, where transitional students with no reliable housing receive support services for academic achievement. Several students each year also identify as English Language Learners and/or qualify for Special Educational needs. All CACS students are low-income, as determined through the Community Eligibility Provision of the National School Lunch Program.
Geographic areas served: We work in the greater York area.
Programs: The Crispus Attucks Charter School is a YouthBuild-affiliated high school diploma program incorporating hands-on job training for youth ages 17 to 21.
