the crime prevention network is best known for administering tulsa crime stoppers, which is an anonymous crime reporting hotline offering cash rewards for reporting criminal activity in tulsa and surrounding counties. Cpn fields the anonymous tips from citizens, and then passes them on to a special liaison in the tulsa police department. While keeping a manned 24x7 phone bank has been the core of the program, it has kept pace with changes in technology; and also supports anonymous tips through a website and via phone text. (see schedule o for continuation)by promoting a safe way for witnesses to report crimes, crime stoppers has created a safe avenue for concerned citizens to help local law enforcement. Since the program started in 1979, crime stoppers alone has awarded over half a million dollars in rewards while recovering over $12 million in stolen property and narcotics.
generation txt is a multi-faceted project designed by a diverse group of teens to help young teens and families practice safe driving, specifically by addressing the hazards of texting and emailing while driving. Teen driver statistics indicate that 21% of fatal car crashes in 16-19 year old drivers were the result of cell phone usage. The program focuses on educating 8th and 9th grade students. These teens are excited about driving; by educating them before they get behind the wheel of a car, they may be less likely to text while driving.
