Programs: Lab research - there are two kinds of living organisms; eukaryotes including humans and prokaryotes including pathogenic bacteria. In our research, the cbri is trying to find new antibiotics which target the ribosome recycling step of bacterial protein synthesis. During 2017, cbri continued to research the ribosome reycling step. In prokaryotes,we sent out a manuscript summarizing the milestones of the past 7 years of research. We characterized the substrate, the time course, and the kinetic constant of the reaction. We started a new kinetic approach using a stop-flow machine. We started to study the mechanism of lethal effect of inactivation of rrf at the lag phase. In the eukaryotic recycling system, we found a new reaction of ef-3, "stimulation of peptidyl hydrolase activity". This was chosen at the american society of microbiology meeting as a "late breakthrough" paper in the coming national meeting in new orleans, la.
