COJECO has done phenominal work in helping recent immigrants from the former Soviet Republics adjust to life in the United States. The theater company that I work for often partners with COJECO to provide free tickets to our performances, especially to older and impoverished people. I was elected Vice President of Manhattan and Bronx branch of American Association of Veterans of WWII from FSU. The most important task was to make a list of veterans for a medal "65 Years of Great Victory." I couldn't do it all by myself, and all local organizations were obviously neglect. But COJECO answered immediately, and next day I had a meeting with a coordinator Rimma Khalamov. She found volunteers who were calling to veterans; made a deal with "Forum" newspaper to publish my ad; invited me to use COJECO conference room to meet with veterans; made copies and typed all materials; wrote a following letter to Washington and mailed a package to Washington. Also she helped me to send letters to different organizations of Manhattan to help old veterans. In behalf of Manhattan veterans I'd like to thank COJECO for a big benevolent timely help. COJECO assisted our organization Congregation Tifereth Israel to buy tfillins, prayer-books, computer, camera, also COJECO funded Jewish Holiday concerts, concert dresses for teenagers, preparation our boys to Bar-mitzvah. COJECO invited us to other Jewish organizations of New York and always keeps us informed posted about community life. I couldn't find a decent job, was in depression didn't hav money...When I came to COJECO LEadership Group I enjoyed all sessions as well as meetings with interesting people - the members of the Group. The result was unexpected: co-leader I've met in a Group invited me to interview at her company. So I've got an offer, and now I work at this company about 4 years - and I'm happy. Thank you COJECO for help and support. COJECO really has a right to be calld Great Non-for-profit organization. (entered by a GreatNonprofits staff member from a paper review form)
Our group (over 20 senior citizens, living in Riverdale, Bronx, NY) is very grateful to COJECO and personally to Victoria Anesh and Rimma Kharlamov. They are our real friends. They inform us about exhibitions, festivals and concerts of Folksbiene Theater when the tickets are free or with a big discount. We never forget exhibition of Mark Chagall in Jewish Art Museum. It was so interesting to see Chagall's art, decorations for Russian Jewish Theater, and portraits of famous Russian Jewish actors of terrible destiny during Stalin's terror. When we were on the concert of Folksbiene we felt like a real part of Jewish nation. It was unbelievable atmosphere on the stage and around. We also participated in the parade Salute to Israel and commemoration days of Holocaust. All good things in our community COJECO did for us.
I'm a President of a Guild of Jewish Folks Arts and Crafts. COJECO invited Guild members to attend interesting events, Folksbiene Jewish Theatre shows, and free ESL classes.
COJECO is a great organization. They are up to very inspirational work within the Russian-Jewish Community. I hope they grow and expand.
Excellent organization with unbelievable staff! Extremely professional and a true treasure in the sea of the Jewish nonprofits. Dependable and super intelligent, this is the organization to work with!
I coordinated and organized a leadership program and other events for Russian speaking Jewish young professionals with COJECO's expertise and help. I witnessed first hand how the resources available through COJECO together with its dedicated professionals and board, create an impeccable connection to the Russian speaking Jewish Community. For example, COJECO was able to gather over 100 Russian speaking Jews from New York City to attend a private discussion with the Israeli Consul General to NY, Asaf Sharif. COJECO was not only able to coordinate the community to this amazing event, but was able to connect to Mr. Sharif and able to get him to agree to speak specifically to the community and organize his speech accordingly. It was accomplishments such as this that encouraged me to continue to be involved with COJECO and the Russian speaking Jewish community.
I became a certified chess teacher. COJECO helped me to organize 9/11 memorial championships during 7 years. (Review input by GreatNonprofits staff member from paper review form).

Great organizations helps get in touch with the community around you. Helps kids in every age group to accomplish goals in life that meet beyond expectations. I am doing an internship teaching children of age 3 about jewish practices and traditions and enjoying every moment of it.
As a longtime Board Member of COJECO, I am extremely proud to be a part of this vital and incredibly important organization. COJECO plays the most significant role in unifying our community and community organizations into a cohesive structure and empowers its members to grow and flourish.
As a Russian Jew and director of RAJE, I take great pride that our organization is a member of COJECO. Under the leadership of Roman Shmulenson, one of the most effective and talented young leaders in our community, COJECO has grown by leaps and bounds becoming the most important umbrella organization representing our community. Building strong grassroots communal institutions is essential for Russian Jews in America, but without proper guidance and support from COJECO that type of development would be almost impossible. Roman works night and day, helping countless grassroots initiatives within our community to develop into strong and successful non-for-profit organizations. His patience, ingenuity and hard work are legendary and I feel great knowing that I can count on him and COJECO to help with the development and expansion of RAJE.
CoJECO has been a great help us by providing our recently immigrated students with grants for their education at our facility.
COJECO always organize a lot of great events for russian jewish emigrant community. I come to a lot of these events and they never fail to be fun. All in all, I think they're doing a great great!
COJECO is a vital organization that strongly serves the NY Russian Jewish community. It has filled a long standing void and has excelled through innovative programming and leadership. It is run very efficiently and effectively.
This is my 2nd year working for this organization and my experience has definitely been a positive one. I feel that it is important to educate children from early childhood about their heritage and COJECO has been making it possible. The lessons are not only informative, but interactive and creative! The best part is that I am also learning and not just teaching.
Cojeco is one of the great programs that NYC helps to Russian Jewish children learn about their culture and religion. I have been working for them for 3 years now and I have learned a lot by teaching the children. This is a great non profit organization that keeps the Jewish tradition alive.
For several years I had an idea for a community art project, but I couldn't pull it off on my own. Last year I found out about COJECO and asked them for assistance. COJECO helped me to finance my project and connected me to the institutions that might be interested in hosting exhibits of artwork I have gathered. I find COJECO's involvement with my project very professional and sincere, and I know I can always come to them for an advice.
COJECO is great organization and great people! The organization is very openned to the community and brings Jewish Russians together in NYC. Also, the events and programs proposed are very interesting (open art museums, shows, concerts, trips, etc...). I highly recommend to all Russian Jews in the NY area to check out COJECO!
I have been working with COJECO's Day Care program for 4 years now and I believe it is an amzaing program. COJECO gives back a lot to the Jewish community and its children. Without this program many Jewish people would not be getting the help they are and our children may not be getting jewish education that we provide them. It is a one of a kind program!
I got involved with COJECO as a result of going to Israel on a trip with my fellow Russian/Jewish emigres after designing The Dance of Life sculpture for the JCC of Staten Island. It was an amasing experience discovering Israel and meeting new friends. Since that time, I participated in a Jewish retreat and received a mini-grant to coordinate a cultural program for Russian/Jewish adults called "Heritage Quest". All these experiences have changed my life and enriched it socially and spiritually. This year, for the first time in 25 years I attended the services for the High Holidays and felt connected and welcome. I thank COJECO for the opportunities to meet new people and personal and professional inspiration.
Does amazing things for the community. One of a kind! Making the world better, one program at a time. has really given me great networking, personal growth and learning experiences that I deeply treasure.
COJECO is a well-run, enterprising organization serving the Russian speaking community of New York and beyond. They are a convener, a coalition and call to action for Soviet emigre activists and organizations.
