Mission: Learning to be an effective leader is a life-long journey. Coro northern california is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that provides experiential and seminar training to groups of diverse leaders. Coro's programs put participants on the path to self-discovery and continual learning. Using a proprietary curriculum involving experience, group participation, interviews, and seminars, coro participants learn about leadership across multiple sectors, industries, and issues. In its 67-year history, coro has graduated thousands of leaders from its many programs. Coro graduates are teachers, investment bankers, union leaders, corporate directors, activists, lawyers, journalists, and elected officials, among other professions. No matter where they work or what job titles they hold, they have learned how to challenge themselves and others to be more ethical and effective leaders.
Programs: Coro's contract program partners with organizations to provide an experiential leadership training program that uses the participants' workplace as the laboratory for developing and practicing innovative approaches to complex problems. The program provides enhanced leadership in areas of self and group awareness, interpersonal communication, and insightful analysis of resources and systems. It gives a deep connection to peers and colleagues and creates a network of leaders which transcends internal boundaries. It gives the participants in the program increased confidence to initiate positive change and innovation within their organization.
the coro fellows program in public affairs (fppa), a nine-month, full-time, graduate-level leadership training program, prepares young professionals for effective and ethical leadership in the public affairs arena. Coro fellows learn to:build consensus among multiple interests communicate with members of diverse communities and sectors analyze resources, constituencies, and goals understand the subtleties of group process and decision-making the program runs from september through may and takes place in los angeles, new york, pittsburgh, san francisco, and st. Louis. 68 diverse coro fellows are chosen who have demonstrated leadership within their school, professional, or local communities and have an interest in public affairs.
launched in 1998, exploring leadership (el) is a full-time summer and part time academic year program that prepares high school juniors for opportunities in the 21st century workforce and higher education by engaging them to become active citizens and to improve their communities. El participants are thirty-six entering 11th graders eighteen in the east bay and eighteen in san francisco who reflect the racial and socioeconomic diversity of the bay area and demonstrate the desire to both expand their leadership skills and make a difference in their school and neighborhood communities.
