Mission: CONCERN's mission is to build public understanding of and support for programs, policies and practices that are environmentally sound, economically vital, and socially just.
Programs: Through its Sustainable Communities Program CONCERN seeks to increase public understanding of and participation in community sustainability and smart growth initiatives. Through a variety of media it explains the benefits of sustainability principles and practices and translates these concepts into concrete steps that can be applied in communities, homes, workplaces, and institutions. It directs the Sustainable Communities Network (SCN) website (www.sustainable.org) and manages the Smart Growth Network (SGN) website (www.smartgrowth.org). It also collaborates with many organizations to promote sustainability initiatives in the Greater Washington Region.
