Mission: To rescue abused & abandoned animals in new mexico and find them permanent, loving homes.
Programs: Pet adoptions/placement - 180 new dogs and cats were rescued by carma in 2013; 170 animals were adopted. In 2013 carma worked jointly with corrales animal control to foster, provide medical care, and find homes for 25 animals that were taken from a hoarding situation. Carma also took in a kitten that was hit by a car. Carma worked with roswell animal control to take dogs when fosters had space.
medical assistance - all carma animals are spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and tested for serious illness before being placed for adoption. Animals that remain with carma are vaccinated and receive dental and medical care to keep them healthy and adoptable. In 2013 carma assisted in funding surgery for a kitten with a heart defect, cared for a puppy who had survived parvo, and took on the care of a neglected pit bull. It also assisted with 5 other animals belonging to low-income families.
foster care/kenneling - carma provided foster care to approximately 450 animals in 2013. While foster care is preferrable, kenneling was used on a limited basis when no foster care was available.
