Mission: The mission of curyj (pronounced courage) is to interrupt the cycles of violence and poverty by motivating and empowering young people that have been impacted directly and indirectly by the criminal justice system to make positive changes in their lives and prepare them to become the community leaders of today.
Programs: Homies for justice: homies 4 justice (h4j) is a paid internship that trains systems impacted, oakland youth and young adults, ages 14-20, to become community leaders and agents of change. H4j provides job training, travel, community-organizing skills and culturally rooted education for the defense of our communities against system violence and injustice.
policy advocacy/positive youth justice initiative: the positive youth justice initiative is a collaborative program to create a countywide youth justice taskforce of youth organizers and their family members to advance restorative justice based systems change in alameda countys juvenile justice system. This project will build the capacity of those most impacted to be at the decision-making tables to transform alameda countys policies and practices to a restorative justice based approach.
life coaching: life coaching helps formerly incarcerated individuals progress and build opportunity in their lives. The program is led by two oakland natives and mentors and provides support for formerly incarcerated young people and adults in oakland.
