Mission: The water trust engages in and supports voluntary efforts to restore and protect streamflows in colorado to sustain healthy aquatic ecosystems
Programs: Water rights acquisitions - colorado water trust acquires decreed water rights through voluntary transactions to provide enhanced streamflows to benefit aquatic ecosystems. To acquire water, colorado water trust works in coordination with the agricultural community, other water users, governmental entities, land trusts, watershed groups, and other non-profit conservation organizations. Colorado water trust also works closely with the colorado water conservation board, the only entity authorized by law in colorado to hold instream flow rights.
physical and structural solutions - colorado's water-short stream reaches can also benefit from physical solutions such as headgate and delivery system upgrades that make more water available downstream. Other approaches include innovative agricultural technology and storage releases or changes in reservoir management that can provide additional supplies. The colorado water trust works diligently to fund structural solutions that will provide significant conservation benefits.
