Causes: Animals, Environment, Land Resources Conservation, Protection of Endangered Species
Results: On May 18, 2015, the Colorado Prairie Initiative convinced the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) to initiate the process of reforming their rules about revegetation and reclaiming an area after oil and gas development moves out. The COGCC has deferred action on this issue for over eight years, and did not move on it until CPI appeared in front of them. New rules would offer additional protections for eastern Colorado's native ecosystems , impose more stringent requirements for the use of native plants, and help re-create the once-mighty grasslands of Colorado.
Target demographics: re-create and restore the great prairies of eastern Colorado
Geographic areas served: Colorado
Programs: improving oil and gas reclamation standards, campaigning for the reintroduction of wild bison, and working to keep our prairies clean and healthy.
