Education programs supported by the cleveland va medical research and education foundation help disseminate the results of research so they may be translated to clinical practice, provide hospital staff with training in the latest treatments, and help patients understand and manage their medical conditions.

Clostridium difficile is a type of bacteria that lives in the human intestines and is one of the most common causes of healthcare-related infections. The clinical research study is evaluating an investigational vaccine for safety and effectiveness in reducing the chance of getting clostridium difficile. Cleveland is the lead and coordinating site for a total of 18 va sites where this study is taking place.

This will provide clinicians with a tool to improve identification of the higher risk patients with an acute spinal cord injury (scg) before the first pressure ulcer develops. This tool will allow for the patients to be provided with the most appropriate pressure relief management. Development of a pressure ulcer soon after suffering a sci has a devastating impact on the progress of initial rehabilitation. Pressure ulcer development will slow down or even stop the progress of this essential rehabilitation.
"miniaturized dielectric coagulometry for monitoring anticoagulation (clotchip and tsoacs)" the cleveland va medical research and education foundation administered a research study whose purpose is to test the effectiveness of the clotchip device, a portable and point of contact device used to monitor a patient's coagulation status. The management of patients on anticoagulation therapy requires time-critical decisions, this device could provide quicker results than traditional methods. This project has three main objectives and is taking place at two sites with lscdvamc being the main site.
