Causes: Environment, Pollution Abatement & Control
Mission: We are dedicated to the eradication of cigarette butt waste from our environment. Through encouraging community dialogue, conducting research into the toxicity and the economics of cleaning up cigarette waste and provide assistance to those seeking to reduce the burden.
Programs: Cigarette producer responsibility project cbpp is currently engaged in a two-year, grant-funded research project developing white papers on various legal/policy issues involving tobacco waste mitigation. This project involves staff members/officers as well as outside experts (contractors) who serve as co-authors on the six papers commissioned as part of the grant. As part of this program we host an annual experts meeting for the authors and invited experts to discuss the policy/legal issues being addressed in the white papers.
toxic butts campaign - staff and officers have been engaged in a number of awareness-raising activities as part of our toxic butts social media campaign, including interviews, writing editorials, attending regional/national/international conferences, speaking at a tedx conference in spain, and activities through our toxic butts website(www. Toxicbutts. Com).
consulting staff, officers and board members have responded to requests for information and assistance globally on issues involving tobacco waste. This includes consultation work has been pro bono, and clients have included: government of australia, alaska dept. Of public health, california dept. Of public health, national park service (bureau of the interior), u. S. Epa, and the u. S. Food and drug administration.
