Mission: To preserve and protect the shaker heritage and property, provide public educational programs and work for the recognition and advancement of shaker heritage.
Programs: 3,529 visitors participated in various activities including: walking tours and educational seminars dedicated to interpreting and preserving the complex history of the enfield shaker village and the missionaries of lasalette; a community garden with 42 plots; seasonal dinners and festivals highlighting shaker menus, crafts, games and building tours; chair tape weaving workshops; the new england stitchers retreat and the international trumpet seminar.
new programs included a celebration for the opening of the enfield shaker bridge that included a new exhibit on the history and importance of shaker bridge and a luncheon for 120 participants; a shaker sisters slumber party designed to raise funds and build awareness about the museum to local women. 43 participants enjoyed some old-fashioned fun and an overnight at the museum; and a new family program created to run during the summer whereby children came and experienced a shaker child's life at the enfield shaker village in the 1850's. The program introduced 75 children to school, work and play that were typical for a shaker child.
the board has overseen a management transition while working on board development and strategic thinking and welcoming four new board members. Behind-the-scenes work has included major cleaning of four of the six buildings, the addition of heirloom plants to the production garden for future seed sales, establishment of an intern program with five interns during the summer of 2012, updated gift shop procdures and full payment of the line of credit.
