Mission: CMA celebrates the visual and performing artist in every child through teaching, creating, collecting, and exhibiting children''s art.
Programs: Programming supports the mission through four distinct initiatives: Public Programming and Targeted Art Classes provide uniquely creative arts experiences to visiting children and their families in a vibrant, inspiring hands-on arts museum environment, including opportunities for children from ten months through the early teen years in media such as ceramics, drawing and painting, printmaking, animation, claymation, cartooning, photography, poetry, papermaking, installation art, and public mural art; Educational Outreach to Schools, through its Accessible Arts programs, hosts over 120 school groups on site per year and sends professional teaching artists to over 25 schools, hospitals and social service organizations for curriculum-aligned arts educational programming; Art Exhibitions, mounted half-a-dozen times a year, showcase the art created by the children at CMA, collections of work done by children from around the world, and when relevant, exhibitions of adult artists work; and a unique Permanent Collection houses over 2,000 pieces of artwork created by children between the 1930s and today from over 50 countries. The collection includes a breathtaking series of paintings by children of depression-era New York City.
