Mission: To provide quality outpatient mental health and child abuse treatment to empower children and families to achieve their potential, and to increase community awareness as to the importance of prevention and treatment.
Programs: Child guidance center prevents and treats mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders of childhood by providing therapeutic, educational, and consultation services to children, families, schools, and community institutions which serve them. The volunteer staff are student interns from various universities. Graduate student interns perform clinical work with children, adolescents, and families including individual, family, and group therapy. They also perform diagnostic assessment and psychological testing. Graduate students also engage in applied clinical research and perform the research investigational treatment. These volunteers provide more than 2,000 hours of services. The value of these hours are not reflected in the expense amount above.
community outreach:undergraduate research assistants conduct community outreach and recruit families for participation in our research program that aims to prevent and treat childhood obesity. They lead parent education workshops on healthy feeding and physical activity. They screen children's bmi in the community. At the clinic, they conduct initial research visits obtaining necessary data, entering it, and support the clinicians conducting the research interventions with clerical tasks. These undergraduates provide over 1,000 hours of services at no cost.
