Both of my children have attended Chicago Chess Foundation tournaments since they were young (one from 3rd grade until 8th grade and the other from kindergarten and will be in 6th grade this year). Our entire family looks forward to these events because they bring together kids and families from all over the Chicago area. These events are such a positive experience because although they are competitions, at the end of the day they are about connecting with others who share an interest in chess. I will truly be sad when my youngest ages out in a few years because everyone involved in putting on these events does a fantastic job of making it about the kids having a good time.
I joined CCF in 2023 as a board member because I wanted to become more involved with youth development in Chicago (and I like chess).
I found a very passionate group of fellow board members, staff, and long-time volunteers who are genuine champions for Chicago’s youth, focused on creating opportunities for social-emotional growth, professional chess instruction, and safe spaces to learn and grow new friendships.
I joined staff in 2024 and I’m thankful to work in the Chicago community and the great kids who are a part of our programs!
