Causes: Chambers of Commerce & Business Leagues
Mission: Cheasapeake water environment association (cwea), is dedicated to improving water quality and protecting the water environment in delaware, maryland and the district of columbia. The association strives to do this through public education, the exchange of technical and scientific information among water quality professionals, the training of wastewater and water treatment plant operators, and by offering technical expertise and advice to the law-making and regulatory processes.
Programs: Annual conference - cwea memebers joined together with chesapeake section of the american water works association (csawwa) and water and waste operators association (wwoa) members in 2014 for the annual tri-association conference, held at roland powell convention center, ocean city, md from august 26-29, 2014. Attendance in 2014 was nearly 1,000. The pre-conference workshops were very well attended. The full 6-track technical program included process and non-process papers, in excess of 135 presentations. Certifications for pdhs and ceus were given out. The exhibit hall featured 122 industry-related products/exhibitor booths.
spring meeting - cwea held a spring meeting jointly with csawwa on may 8, 2014 at the public works museum in baltimore, md. Over 100 attendees, 8 exhibitors and several sponsors enjoyed a full day, which included technical presentations and the annual water taste test challenge.
several seminars and training events were conducted in 2014. Such events included: 1. ) joint career fair. Cwea and csawwa held a career fair on february 14, 2014 at the engineering club of baltimore, baltimore, md. 18 firms and 5 utilities interviewed 67 students. 2. ) cwea participated in the wef 2014 fly-in held in washington, dc on april 7-9, 2014. 3. ) joint water reuse seminar. On april 17, 2014, cwea and csawwa hosted "the case for water reuse in the chesapeake bay region" at the elks lodge in elkridge, md. Over 50 attendees and exhibitors participated, and continuing education credits were provided. 4. ) cwea's collection systems specialty conference with wef was held march 11-14, 2014 at the convention center, baltimore, md. 5. ) stormwater events. Cwea held two one day seminars this year at maritime institute of technology (mitags), linthicum, maryland. The seminar on june 4, 2014 was titled "success stories: proven effective stormwater compliance strategies" had over 120 attendees. The second seminar held on october 15, 2014 was titled "did i hear that right? Successful communication strategies to gain support to modify behavior" had over 95 attendees.
