Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Disaster Aid, Search & Rescue Squads

Mission: Chesapeake search dogs (csd) ensures that a professionally trained all volunteer k-9 search, rescue, disaster and cadaver evidence recovery service is available to law enforcement, fire service and emergency management agencies within the chesapeake bay region and southern pennsylvania to search for lost or missing persons 24/7/365 at no charge. Canine and human team members undergo extensive ongoing training, which, combined with the dogs' natural keen sense of smell and love of the "work", goes a long way toward increasing the chance of a successful find. Csd has 10 operational canines certified for air scent and three operational canines certified in human remains detection (hrd). Csd currently has 7 canine candidates in training for air scent and 2 canine candidates in training for human remains detection (hrd). Csd received 24 call outs and was deployed on 16 searches during 2017 - 7 air scent; 8 human remains detection (hrd); and 1 both.
