Mission: The purpose of the charlottesville/albemarle transportation coalition is to bring together citizen volunteers to develop, study and act on proposals for the improvement of traffic in the charlottesyille-aibemarle area. Our principal activities have centered around educating the public and local, state and federal officials regarding the negative impacts of the construction of a 6. 2 mile bypass around route 29 and the lower cost and more beneficial effect of building a system of parallel roads to route 29 in a plan called: "places 29" which was approved by the board of supervisors of albemarle county in february 2011.
Programs: Community education, including producing reports and white papers, organizing and speaking at public meetings and newspaper and television ads to inform local residents of the impact the "western bypass" would have on the environment, nearby schools, local real estate tax revenue and the water supply.
radio spots before the 11/5/2013 general election related to the "western bypass" issue and local transportion and roadways. The spots also include a line to hold candidates accountable for their actions. It was determined that the costs for these radio spots were independent expenditures.
