I became a new member of Charlotte Co. Genealogical Society last year. I had not delved into my family Ancestry until that time so I needed all the help I could get. I started attending the free classes that were offered and now am up and running making Family Scrapbooks. I could not have done it without this wonderful group of volunteers steering me in the right direction. I cannot thank them enough. Barbara South Port Charlotte, FL

I love doing genealogy but it is a lot more fun when I know more about where and how to search. I come to the monthly meetings and weekly classes because I learn something new every time. There are always new speakers, new sources, and new tricks that can help find that elusive ancestor. Keep up the good work!

The Charlotte County Genealogical Society holds well-taught, interesting classes for people with all levels of genealogical expertise. The lectures cover all aspects of genealogy, and they are always interesting. In addition, members will help you with specific questions or just how to get started. The members are friendly and very competent, and we always look forward to seeing them every year.

In early 1996 I went to the library in Pt. Charlotte, FL and a volunteer for Charlotte County Genealogical Society helped me find microfiche files. I found my married name Gambrel. I was a total novice and thrilled as I was able to find the connection. Joined the Society and to this day am amazed by the educational opportunities available through this marvelous group. I've attended many seminars and classes and learned to do things the "right" way because of the Society. I've written a 650 page book on the Gambrel family with seven ancestors in the American Revolution. I've also written a 750 page book on my Engelstad (maiden name) family. Have done genealogy for so many people I have many files in my cabinet. This summer I was able to find my boyfriend's ancestors. His mom, Marianne, had been told she was part Menominee Indian but didn't know anything else. I was able to find the Indian connection and track her ancestors back to 1702 in France . Her 4th great grandmother was the granddaughter of a Menominee Indian chief. Marie Antoinette Chevalier was named "Queen Marinette" and the city and county of Marinette, WI are named for her. Marianne has had terminal cancer since February and this was a wonderful gift for her as she only has weeks to live. I COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS without the knowledge and help I received from the Charlotte County Genealogical Society. Kudos and thanks to them! Judy Engelstad Gambrel

I have been a member of the CCGS for a number of years. The Society always has been and continues to be oriented towards public benefit. Projects, open meetings, presentations, "how to" genealogy classes are targeted to share this unique interest area with the general public. Members field genealogy inquiries having to do with the Charlotte County area regularly, receiving them from searchers from far and wide. Well organized, well led, and well run makes this an excellent Society for those seeking their family tree. ----- William Ferrigno, Punta Gorda

The Charlotte County Genealogical Society is the greatest group of volunteers united in their mission to help anyone research their ancestors. Classes are taught about research in general, or in specific areas, i.e. Canada, Germany, Ireland, or specific topics such as DNA and the Civil War; as well as using genealogical software such as Family Tree Maker. Using the library subscriptions to Ancestry and Heritage Quest is also taught, as well as classes on computer basics. Best of all, volunteers are there offering advice and willing to guide you on your search into the past. The Genealogical Society has a section in the Charlotte County Mid-County Library filled with books, magazines and loads of research material just waiting to be discovered.
